Proofreading Services
About Me & What I Offer:
- I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from York University in Toronto, Canada, and I've been teaching writing, vocabulary, and grammar for sixteen years.
- I am a writer myself and know what sorts of errors are easy to miss! I'm also very friendly and happy to be a part of our writing community! You're always welcome to DM me on Instagram, Threads, or the Bird App about my services!
- I will happily answer any questions you might have about writing, vocabulary, and grammar, and if I can't answer your questions, I'll refer to the Chicago Manual of Style or my copyediting professor from the University of San Diego Extended Studies for help.
- I am incredibly detail-oriented, and I really, really, REALLY like rules about copyediting and proofreading. I can guarantee consistency.
- I have a strong moral compass and will immediately notify you if your book sounds similar to a project I am personally working on in order to protect the integrity of our manuscripts. For more information on my works-in-progress, see my Books tab.
- I will provide you with a clear timeline, or you and I can schedule a time for you to receive my services in the future. Once we've decided upon a block of time, I can turn around your book in 7-10 calendar days, depending on the word count. Please note: Anything beyond 100,000 words might take up to fourteen calendar days.
For A Limited Time Only:
- I am in the process of becoming a copyeditor, and to build my résumé, I'm offering my proofreading services free of charge to the first five people who email me about this offer in exchange for an honest review of my work. Please note that I hope to share these and any subsequent reviews on my website. By requesting this free service, you are agreeing to let me post your honest review on my site. Thank you for your understanding!
I'm A Great Fit For:
- Cozy mysteries, YA and MG fantasy, adult fantasy, and science-fiction. Please inquire if you would categorize your book in a different genre!
I'm Not The Best Fit For:
- Christian or religious fiction, sports fiction, picture books, or nonfiction.
I Will Not Consider:
- Manuscripts containing and/or promoting misogyny, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia, Christian nationalism, white supremacy, colonialism, or ableism.
What You'll Get:
- I'll read your completed and polished manuscript in Microsoft Word and note (through Track Changes) any typos, missing words, grammar errors, punctuation errors, and spelling errors. I'll also keep an eye out for any inconsistencies and notify you.
- You'll receive 10% off my services if you choose to book with me for another project. Simply remind me in your next inquiry that you're a returning customer! I'll be happy to welcome you back!
- You'll receive an additional 10% off my services (for a total of 20% off) if you refer me to a friend and they book with me. Any referrals will also receive 10% off!
My Rates:
- I charge $0.008 per word via PayPal or Venmo. Before I begin with my services, I require a 50% deposit. The remaining 50% will be due upon completion of the proofreading services. I'll send you a contract to look over and sign before we begin. Please note: I will hold a seven-day period (or ten-day period, depending on word count) for your manuscript but cannot start until the deposit is made. If the week passes without any deposit, my services for your book will move to the next available week. If the payment is within the same week but late, I will still need at least a seven-day window to complete my best work, which could mean moving your book to the next available week.
- I am happy to do payment plans! Please mention this in the contact form below so we can chat more.
- I am also happy to provide sliding scale options with no questions asked. Please complete the form below and provide me with your manuscript's final word count, and we'll work together to come up with something fair and feasible.
